Gasoline question

I'm getting ready to install my new 331 stroker motor and wanted to get some thoughts on what I should do about some old gas that I have left in my tank.

There is less than a 1/3 of a tank, probably closer to a 1/4. The gas is from about October of 2001, maybe November. So we're looking at gas that is at least 7 months old.

So, what should I do?

- mix in 5 gallons of new gas with the old?
- drain the old? but then what do I do with it?
- not worry about it?

The gas in question is Sunoco 94 Octane - not sure if that matters or not.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Okay, definately get rid of it. Without stabalizer, gas goes bad in less than 3 months. If you start up your brand new 351 with the old gas, it will be like running a 1/4 tank of water threw it. The best thing you can do is drain it out and put it in some gallon containers, or if you have one a 5 gallon container. You can take it you any gas station with a garage or any mechanic and he'll put it in his haz-mat disposal. He may charge you like a dollar a gallon but by law he has to take it. I would much rather pay 10 dollars to get rid of the bad gas than have a blown motor from running off of crap gas.

I agree, I forgot to put stabilizer in my white stangs tank, and blew a head gasket after about a year sitting.

put it in your lawn mower, it's amazing what kind of gas they'll run on!

I agree completely! I've seen minor miracles where they are concerned!

Take care,

I work as a landscaper and I agree also. We always get summer help from local high school kids and some of the stuff they do is hilarious... They had one of the mowers running off diesel gas!!! Another time, the oil/gas mix was supposed to be 25:1 and it was 2:1!!! And the machines ran fine!!!! Yes, miracles do happen. For some of us, they happen on a daily basis.

I used to be big into nitro RC cars. I ran mine off of some old 25% nitromethane. It seemed to have double power, blue smoke, had to richen the carb up though, very cool.
