supercharging choices
I have a 1994 Mustang GT with a 5.0 liter motor, and am planning on getting a 6 lb. boost supercharger . so far, I like the Kenne Bell screw-type because it gives instant throttle response and low end torque, and also is easy to install. Are there disadvantages to this supercharger such as performance or quality?

I don't like the kenne bell stuff. I hear they are the most fun to drive, but they don't offer the same perf benefits.
The benefit of the "insta-boost" (aka roots-type or twin-screw) is that it drives like a big-block engine. If you go with a centrifugal supercharger, like the vortech, the power it makes increases as RPMs rise, making the biggest difference in HP gains and 1/4 mile slips. If you are looking for the biggest PERF gain out of this mod, go with the vortech or equivalent type. I like vortech because they have a great reputation for not f'ing stuff up (reliable) and they are cheap for the 5.0s. Just depends what you are looking for. Thanks, DoranW |
I dont think i agree with that statement. The KB is able to belt out 600 hp. Most people will find that to be just enough. I think it depends on how much street driving he would be doing. I think he would like the KB over a vortech in that respect. On the other hand, I plan on buying a Turbo Technology setup for the street so i may not know what the hell i am talking about:D

ATI Procharger Centrifugal Superchargers.

i am personally looking into the kenne belle. i mostly drive on the street, with the ocassional trip to the track. i am looking for some "stoplight terror" and the kenne belle will give you that. i also have heard that they are a blast to drive with.

True. I was just stating that it was capable of doing it. If i planed on driving mine more on the street i would look into it a bit more. But for what chiaronate is taliking about, I think he is making a good choice.

The KB would and is a fun streetable supercharger, but with instant boost, comes the inability to hookup, especially on the street. A centrifugal type blower want deliver the instant boost, which will make it much easier to hookup and will make more power in the long run than a roots style blower. If you invest in the KB, invest in some good suspension components to go along with it, you'll need it. With the other type blowers, a good set of drag radials will probably get you by out on the street, unless you try and launch at high rpms.
Right now I'm running a small turbo which puts me at full boost by around 2500 rpms, similar to what a roots style blower would do. I can just mash the gas from idle and spin for about as long as I want to. I'm looking to upgrade to something larger so it doesn't spool quite so fast and I can actually get some power to the ground. |
hooking up may seem like a problem, but i have 2.73's and an automatic transmission. the tires shouldn't spin very much.

I have a Novi 1000 on my car, and I am quite happy with it overall.

i have cold air induction, underdrive pulleys and a flowmaster cat-back exhaust. i'm planning on changing heads and headers, but i'd like to keep the same cam. it has a lobe separation of .115, and will work great with forced induction. i thought i'd save up for a supercharger and go from there. i'd like to see how the stock gears run with it.
