idling problems

hey guys i have a 1988 gt and recently i have had some problems with it idling right. here are some examples of what happens. when i am driving down the road and stop at a stop sign, light etc. the engine cuts off. another thing it does is when i am driving and stop at a sign it idles at around 2-2300 rpms. and then some times it idles fine.

what should i check to try to get this problem ironed out?

i have recently put new distriputer cap, rotor, wires, and coil on it.

I am not sure how the speed density cars are set up, but have you checked your throttle position sensor? If this is not set correctly, idling problems can occur.

Possible TPS problem. Not sure with those symptoms.I know there is a big general problem with V-8 fords of the Mid and Late 80's, possibly into the 90's, not sure. That problem is; "When you start the car, whether it's warm or not, the Engine will "flash"to 2,500 or so and then back to a normal type idle".Mine does it. I have checked vacuum, so that's not it.I have set my TPS from .7--1.4 volts. It doesn't change the problem with my engine.I have it set at .98 V at this time which is the number I hear and read is best.Sorry, I can't helpya.:(
