Thermal wrapping long-tube headers

Anyone got any comments on wrapping long-tube headers with the thermal wrap stuff you can buy? I'm kicking myself in the rear - for not getting our long-tubes JetHotCoated before we installed them. We're thinking about wrapping the headers to decrease the heat in the engine compartment. We could also take the long-tubes back off and send them out to be JetHotCoated; that'll be a pain though.

Jet-Hot coat them or wrap them....either way you'll be pulling headers soon.

Heat wrap traps too much heat and will literally melt the header int spots, resulting in leaks.

Either get them Jet-Hot coated or leave them be.

Tireburners right ... wrapping them will toast em ... many header mfgs. now are putting warnings in the box ... wrap em and it voids the warranty.

I wraped mine, But this is not a daily driver. It keeps the temps down big time though.

I used header wrap once. It did reduce engine compartment temps big time. I wouldn't use it again, though. If you spill anything on it, you're going to smell it burning for months. Coolant was the worst.

I have not heard of the headers melting from it, but I have heard of numerous cases of it retaining moisture, and causing the headers to rust out prematurely.

Take care,

I fyou JetHot CERAMIC coat the headers inside & out. It reduces heat transer to the headers, and less to the engine compartment.

Header wraps just retain heat inside the pipe, leaving the pipe gettting _way_ too hot and loses life expectancy.

I got mine coated:

I jet hot coated mine inside and out plus wrapped them. I'll give you guys a long term report later....
