running with no mufflers

I own a 1987 mustang gt with no current mods, I am looking to see if anyone has pulled off their mufflers and left the stock h-pipe with catylytics and stock manifold on, if so how did it sound, was there alot of back pressure or did it just sound sweet,

I've seen people weld in pipe in place of the mufflers.....it sounds ok, pretty loud.

The guy that had my car before me tore off one of the mufflers some how, who knows where he was driving the thing so to equal out the back pressure he cut the bottom out of the other muffler
so to make a long story short, my car basically had a stock cat and no mufflers when I bought it.
It sounded ok but not really my style, it was loud but made some strange sounds like popping and back firing

I think you would be much happier with a set of decent mufflers and an off road H, I know I am.

if you are looking for a cheap way to make your car sound mean I would atleast get some pipe to put in place of the mufflers to connect the tail pipes up.

I know its a little different but we did this on a friends f-150. We had a new muffler ready to go in but we started it without the muffler and it actually sounded pretty quiet. while his was only single exhaust we ended up just leaving it without a muffler. The only thing was that it would pop a bit when using the engine to slow it down. But other than that it actually sounded pretty good.

Different strokes for different folks...

Like mentioned, your car will sound better with an off-road h-pipe and some aftermarket muffs...

Straight pipes sound trashy, IMHO.

Yeah, tried it on an old 95 we had, sounded ok, but had the popping and didn't have the famous rumble mustangs are known for. Go with an off-road and some flowmasters, with turn downs if you like it loud! Good luck!
