Timing question

Hi,

I have a 95 Cobra. About a week ago I adjusted my timing up 15 deg. I drove my car around for about 10 min. and the difference was very noticeable. I started my car up about 1/2 hour later and my car did not have the same responce. someone told me that it may have been because I didn't reset or relearn the computer. Could someone help me with a link to directions about how to reset and relearn my computer. Also, do I need to turn my distributor back before I reset the computer.

Thank you,
Bob:confused:

When you adjusted your timing did you remove the SPOUT connector?

If you didn't the computer will just readjust the timing.

The grey capped connector on the r/h fender? if that is it then I did disconnect it. I put it back on after I was done.

You shouldn't have to reset the ECM after adjusting the timing, but you can give it a shot. Set your timing where ever you want it, with the SPOUT removed. Replace the SPOUT connector when you're finished. To reset the ECM:

1) Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2) Turn on the headlight switch for 10 minutes.
3) Turn the switch off, and reconnect the battery cable.

After resetting the ECM,

1) Start the engine, and allow it to idle for 1 minute.
2) Shut it off, and wait 10 seconds.
3) Start the engine, and turn the headlights on high, and your a/c, with the fan on high, and let it idle for 1 minute.
4) Turn all the accessories off, and turn the engine off, and wait 10 seconds.
5) Start the engine, and make it idle @ 2000 rpm for 1 minute.
6) Shut it off, and wait 10 seconds.
7) Start the engine, and turn the headlights on high, and your a/c, with the fan on high, and make it idle @ 2000 rpm for 1 minute.
8) Turn all the accessories off, and turn the engine off.

This is the best way to relearn the ECM, but you should take a 10 minute test drive afterwards to make sure all is well.

Take care,
~Chris

After you set your timing, do you need to shut the car off before plugging the SPOUT conn. back in or does it make a difference?

Doesn't matter.

Take care,
~Chris
