Rev limiter ??
We've got an 88GT with a 5-speed, looking to take it to the track soon with my 17-year old son. He's learning the ropes with shifting and dragging a car.
Is there a built in rev limiter on these cars? |
Yes, I believe its at 6,125 rpms. If your car is pretty much stock I wouldn't shift it that high. I believe power drops off as the rpms get that high. Maybe someone can post HP curves for a stock motor, to determine what the best shift points are.

actually the rev limit is 6,250 but if the car is pretty much stock anything over 5500 is just killing power tell him to shift at 5250-5500 to achieve your best times
|
Just out of curiosity, given the mods in my sig, what should I shift at? I have the 6000 rpm plug in the MSD box. Thanks

I would guess around 5400rpms....That is where my 5.0 runs the best.
|
Mine runs best at 9,000 rpm's :)

MY mostly stock 5.0 is the fastest @ shifting 5400 in first and 5200 after that. There is a big spread between 1-2 and it kills alittle torque so the tires dont spin too bad. It works for me.

Gofastmercury Do you have any pics of your Comet. The reason I ask is I dont think that I have ever seen one.

6000 rpms is a little high if you have stock heads and cam. Shifting somewhere between 5200 & 5500 rpms should be about right for a mostly stock '86-'93 Mustang. Of course, if your bored .040 over engine has bigger heads & cam...then by all means rev the crap out of it! |
