Slicks/Rim question
 

I know i'll have to get an inner tube for my slicks i'm going to buy. I already bought some 10 hole wheels for slicks and i'm going to probably run a 26x(8-8.5)-15 slick, and i'm wondering will i have to have beadlocks? I don't really want to drill into the wheels, but i'll do what i have to do. Can anyone shed some light on this?

An 8.5 slick will not need screws, nor a tube, thats just my opinion though, so dont hold me against it,

i run a 26x10.5 e.t. street, (close enough to a slick) on 15x8 rim, but im about to mount the same tires on some 15x7's, they will bulge out a little, but i see people do it at the track, noone around here uses tubes in e.t. streets, at least not on street strip cars, and hoosier, or m/t slicks have the same basic design as the e.t. streets.

You shouldn't need to worry about tubes unless you need to screw the tire to the rim, and from your sig you shouldn't have to worry about that. Depending on driving style and how hard you launch, you shouldn't need to use beadlocks or screws til your running 11's or so. Just my .02

Thanks guys, i know i don't have a whole lot of power but i've had alot of people i've talked to say i'd probably need tubes/screws, or i wouldn't need them. I'll probably launch at over 3,000rpm so i was just concerned about air loss around the bead. I was pretty darn sure i wouldn't have enough power to twist the tire on the rim since i don't have that much, but this answers my question.
It wouldn't hurt to have an inner tube though, i'm just concerned about the slicks losing air and getting wobbly at the top end of the track. If i can get away without inner tubes i'll do it, but i'd like to put safety first (if it is actually an issue).
I just want to verify.....i won't have to use tubes? If not, that's cool. Thanks again,

You dont have to use tubes. I did not on my 10 hole 15x7 wit MT ET Streets 28x11.5. I test them for the first time tonight though. So if the tire flies off i write a post about it.:eek: :D

I personally think tubes are a pain in the butt i never used them until about 2 years ago when a local speed shop salesman told me for a car in the 10's i would have to have the tubes so i bought them and i never thought they hooked up as good as w/o the tubes then i got a hole in a tube (actually it exploded) so i remounted the slicks w/o the tubes and my car started to hook alot better i was running 1.50 60 ft times and i never had any trouble with the slicks losing pressure or spinning around the rim.

Also makes a difference if your running an automatic or a manual trans. Running a stick your going to shock the tires much more than in an automatic, from what I understand. A buddy of mine spun his ET Streets about an inch on the rim driving on the street (He's got a 332 ci stroker and runs very low 11's on motor).

You wont need either.

I run tubeless slicks with no screws , and go low 12's with mid 1.6 60's. I may spin the tire, but Im not sure. My buddy runs the same setup to high 11's and high 1.5x 60's.
