Need Technical Help
I am working on an Automotive Engineering project involving vehicle dynamics simulations. I am working on calculating equivalent masses for various parts of the engine and drivetrain.
I was wondering if any of yall know where I could find technical info and any contacts for the mass moments of inertia of the following items: clutch, harmonic damper, tranny, driveshaft, LSMD, axles. |
Never mind interias, do any of yall know websites that might be chock full of mustang 5.0 information?
how about any good contacts at mustang auto parts manufactures?. |

can you model the parts as cylinders with equivalent rotating mass? You'll be pretty hard pressed to find J's for all those parts.
Let me know if you can find them, I have a similar project to do later in the school year |
yeah, i could do a bunch of cylinders and add them all together, but that's a lot of cylinders in the tranny. also, that still leaves me the problem of finding exact dimensions and weights of the parts.

I have a spare T-5 I can sell ya so you can take it apart to weigh the gears and get their radii :D
Is the moment inertia of a cylinder 1/2*Pi*r^4? I'd just use the average radius of the gears and model the tranny as 1 big cylinder. Then make an educated guess (well, more like pulling it out of your ***) for the mass (~ .5-.75 slugs) You would also have to also include the rotational drag that the tranny fluid creates. As well as the coeffiecient of friction for the clutch..... arghhhhhhhh too much for me to think about |
