The going rate for boring a cylinder

I went to a machine shop here and town and wanted to get some price figures on reworking a 302 block. One of the things I want done is boring the block 30 over. They said they charge $40 a hole. Does this sound right? I thought it was kind of steap. I will have to look around to find something better

I got a price break as a friend of mine was close with owner of the machine shop, but here is a breakdown of what I had done when prepping for my 331 cu. in. stroker:

78.00 - Hot Tank
79.00 - Hone
112.00 - Over bore - .030"
170.00 - Balancing of stroker kit.
$439.00 - Total (excluding tax)

Hope this gives you an idea. So, it looks like $320 for a .030" job is a little pricey.

Sounds a lot better of a deal.. He wanted like $55 to hot tank but wanted $30 for cam bearings and then like $20 or so to put them in.

I just had my 351 block & crank:

Hot tanked
bored .060 over
cam bearings installed
crank micro polished & oil holes enlarged
align bore checked
block decked

All this for $260.55
This was done at a reputable shop too.
