Goal Mid-Low 13's?
Hey,
Im looking at getting a 88-93 LX and was wondering what kinda power i could expect from a car with these mods using a auto tranny: Holly Systemax II intake or Edelbrock Performer/RPM Ford Racing E303 Cam BBK Fenderwell Cold Air Intake Edelbrock65mm Throttle Body and EGR plate ASP Underdrive Pullies BBK Adj. Fuel Pressure Regulator BBK 2 1/2" High Flow Cat H-Pipe Hooker 1 5/8" Shorty Headers (Smog Legal) American Thunder 2 1/2" Flowermaster cat backs 4.10 Gears w/taller than stock DR's B&M Shift Kit and probally a higher stall What kinda HP #'s am i looking at, and what kinda times, also i heard that with 4.10's in a stock height tires will cause the trans to shift into overdrive at the end of the 1/4 mile if left in drive? is this true? How much taller should i go? Also what kinda Stall speeds should i be looking at and what are some of the pros and cons of going from a AOD to C-4? Thanks for any info Steven |
i would say about 13.00, the only downfall to a c4 is that there is no overdrive, so with the 4.10's it would probably be a pain on the highway.
|
you can also get a non-lockup converter so you don't shift into overdrive on the strip. I think that would be better than a c-4 conversion.
|
Don't forget about suspension! With all that power that you'll be adding along with the 4.10's your going to need to harness what you got and put it to the ground.
I'd say forget about the C-4. Get a Lentech valve body, and a 3000 rpm stall converter for the AOD, and you'll be set. The Lentech valve body can be shifted manually and has an OD lockout option so you won't shift into OD at the track. Also what about heads? That will really increase power over stock. If you add heads to your list, I'd say you might be able to get high 12's depending if your car can hook up like it should. |
Thanks for the info, What kinda suspension stuff should i go with? I was thinking maybe subframe connectors and I heard you can get slapper bars for the fox's? Would a Manual Valve body be considered a bracket racing aid? The only reason im not going to put heads on is because im going to race the car in a highschool class at Famoso Speedway and its bracket racing but you can't run faster than a 12.99 otherwise your disqualified, so i don't want to do to much to the car, after im done with racing highschool im thinking heads and a blower :) Thanks for the info

Subframes will help alot, you might also wanna grab a set of lower control arms/traction bars. I've heard you can also steal the front suspension out of a 4 banger stang cuz it gives more weight transfer. If you don't wanna take the junkyard route and have the money theres always the 50/50 drag shocks or 70/30 drag shocks....

Just my opinion, but that Holley intake is way too much for a stock headed car. You'd be better off with a Cobra or GT40 intake IMO. I don't know if the cam would help without aftermarket heads either, I know the stock cam is supposed to be pretty good (I've heard of guys going 10's with the stock cam, and I know a guy who went 11's with it).
Sub frames are a must IMO, the rest of the suspension stuff depends on how driveable you want it. Adjustable shocks and struts are a good idea, 4 cyl springs in the front, stockers in the back, pull the sway bar (or just the end links when you go to the track) and sticky tires. That's a simple set up. I don't think your going to be able to go as fast with an automatic on a stock headed car as you could with a manual. I don't know much about the automatics though. Just my .02 |
You are going to need to do something about the heads man. You might look into porting the stock ones, or picking up a pair of gt40 irons. Its gonna be hard to hit 13's at al with the stock heads on there. Also that holley is definitely overkill. One of my buddies had ported gt40 irons, port matched cobra intake, 65mm tb, all the other little bolt ons, and a tremec 5 spd with 3.73s and he ran a best of 13.8.

Thanks for the info, right now im trying to choose between getting a fox body or going with another vintage, but i was wondering about driveability of the car, im using the auto because it will be a lot more consistant than a 5-speed for brackets, it seems that putting a 351w in a 65/66 coupe with heads cam intake carb with some traction bars and gears is going to get alot better results than building a fox even though theres more weight, i thought the combo i gave would net mid to low 13's, well thanks for the help anyway

Yeah, I say without heads you should pull a mid 13. Good luck
|
Yep, and i go low 13's without heads;)
|
Those are good times for what you have COUPE50h! I gotta get some slicks!
|
All cars/drivers run soo different.
If your talking slicks and a converter you can do it. with a mild setup a 5speed is to your best advantage on getting those times. You could easily pull off mid 13's, but dont be disappointed if you go 14.3's. Get a 5spd and some slicks and you'll gget there easier. Skyler |
I want to keep the auto cause its a bracket racing car, and i have to pass smog, have DOT Tires and Mufflers, so right now the older car is a better deal but thank you for the info

i pulled a 14.5 BONE stock... if all I pulled was a 14.3 with that i would be dissapointed.
|
ok i lied... at the time the et's were taken all i had was the exhaust, nothing else in the sig was onthe car yet.
