Roller rockers and which cam??'s

Ok, buying a set of gt-40's ( thanks Dragstang ) they are complete minus the rockers. Now I have the stock 86 model cam in the engine now.. Now would I be better off to buy an aftermarket cam and go with some 1.6 ratio rockers.. buy some 1.7 ratio rockers and stay with the stock cam??? or buy 1.7's and go with an aftermarket cam.. The heads are in stock form now but I will port them and the intake while engine is out of car for swapping.. Any other ideas will be appreciated. I would like to run a hotter cam that stock and might mill hte heads to get comp up for spraying.. just need more opinions.

Thanks
Bradley

if your gonna get a head job then i'd go with the 1.7's and a hot aftermarket cam. I don't think i'd go with an alphabet cam if you can get a custom one say from comp, ultradyne, lunati, ed curtis etc..then i would.

Well cost is an issue unfortunately.. and I still want to keep the car very streetable. Since I plan on spraying it at a later time would a nitrious cam now be ok, and just tune it for a non NOS run until I get the NOS or would that be to hard to do?? What alphabet cam would you recommend if a custom grind inst possible,. I have a guy that we use for all our big block custom cams so I may see what he can do..

yes you can run an NOS cam without nitrous. it works great actually. If you didn't wan't to go with a custom grind or the nos grind then I would suggest the F303 or X cam. you can tune the motor without nos until you get ready to spray it.

What would be the advantages and disadvantages to spraying an "X" cam equiped engine.. Same with the "F" cam??

their are no really disadvantages or advantages to spraying with these cams. Both are good. The X pulls a little stronger up top because it's made for top end power. It has more lift .542 compared to the .512 lift on the F cam. You would likely make more power with the X. Considering of course if you get a good set of heads and have them ported and worked accordingly and the motor is set up ideally.
