Rear Shock Removal

Ok...So in my hatchback there are those little circle cutouts that can be removed to get to the top bolt with my ratchet. But when i turn the nut i think the whole rod is turning with it. How do i get this nut off easily so that i can remove the shocks withouht taking apark the interior.

A friend and I just did my rear shocks 2 weeks ago. He held onto the rod while I hit the top nut with the air tools. If you don;t have any air tools, see if you can get somebody to hold the rod, or even try turning it the opposite way while you try to loosen the nut. Hope this helps some. BTW, if you don't plan on using the stock shocks again, get a set of vice grips and have somebody hold it with that.

Have a freind hold onto the bottom side of the rod, under the fenderwell.

Hold on to the top of the shock with vice grips while you use a "wrench" instead of a socket. Much easier if you are by yourself.

AIR TOOLS, it'll zip it right off

A wrench will never fit in the hole..and i dont want to take apart the whole interior. I got them off using some channel locks and a socket today though. I really wished on of my lazy friends would help me!! I am puting in new upper and lower control arms, springs, struts, shocks, and an aluminium driveshaft this winter. So far all i have in is the driveshaft, the rest of my time has been spent removing old parts. There is still a couple left to go! Anyone in chicago looking for a partner??? :)
