Stalling after the engine is warm
I have a 5 speed 89 coupe that runs great when it is cold. After the temperatrue goes up to operating range it has bad idle problems. If I am driving at a constant speed for awhile and then come to a light... I usually push in the clutch and hit the brakes. This is when the motor will die. If I wait until the last minute to push in the clutch(almost stopped) then it will not stall. I get some surging from time to time if the engine is warm.
I have already checked the TPS and it measured .98 I have cleaned the IAC several times and even tried another one(used). I did reset the computer after switching out the IAC. This is really getting old. Should I just go buy another IAC and try it? Any ideas? |
Check the EGR

EGR
Chris, how do I check the EGR? Is there a test that I can run? Should I just remove it and clean it?

tfi module? maf? or weak fuel pump, possibly the pip pickup in the distributor?
my car used to die mysteriously with my old fuel pump wich finally quit a few weeks later, now it has never died since, with it's autozone pump:rolleyes: fuel or spark delivery, just gotta narrow it down, need a scanner so you dont end up replacing everything. hope you fix it... |

Chances are you've got problems with your o2 sensors. Mine was doing the same thing but it's an 87. The guy that had it before me had cut the wires somehow going to the o2 sensors so he fixed it by using some sort of really crappy connector. Since these devices are very resistance specific the computer was gettin all sorts of weird numbers. It wasn't causing the usual surging and stuff associated with those sensors but instead died when I would push in the clutch. Simple fix? Pull thermostat. Run the damn car in open loop all the time. lol

O.K. Thanks. I will check them out.

I'd replace the IAC valve. That happened to me a while back and, in addition, the car would stall if I had the A/C running too. I popped in a brand new IAC and it went away.
Your EGR valve could also be involved, but I don;t think it effects the idle as much, it's more for recycling the gases coming from the crankcase. Good luck! fongo |
muchas gracias
Thanks fongo...
I am going to replace the IAC tonight just to get it out of my mind. It really does it bad with the A/C like you said. We'll see. I will let everyone know if I get it figured out. |
