I have an 88 and an 87 I want to put the 5 speed in the 88 or would it be easer to change the body of the 88 to the 87.

NO. it would be much easier to swap the trannyies.. MUCH..

It'll work.
The hardest part will be the removal and installation of the pedal assy.
