Tokico vs. KYB
 

I need struts/shocks for my 90 GT daily driver. Also installing FMS B or C springs. The adjustable units are a bit to expensive for me so I'm looking at the one of these two setups:

1. KYB GR-2 front, GR-2 or regular KYBs rear ($180)
2. Tokico Premium Performance ($326 from maximum motorsports)

Which do you guys recommend? Is there a place where I can pick up the Tokico's cheaper than $326/set? Also, will GR-2's up front and regular KYB's in the rear cause any problems?

My friend put on the kyb gr2 in front and the kyb gasadjust rears. they come in a kit from Texas Mustang. Work great in his car. I got them for mine too, but not tried them yet as there is no motor in it.

I have Gr-2 struts and kyb gas out back on my 89 GT. They worked great for a few months and than started to weaken. It's been a little over a year now and my car rides almost as rough as my oem shocks that I replaced.

When it comes to your suspension, do not buy based on price alone unless that's all you can afford.

shocks that only lasted a couple months?? you better return em. sounds like they are defective.

No, they are not deffective. Just cheap quality. It was more like six months until they started getting soft.

KYB is at the bottom of the of the bucket when it comes to ride longevity. Why do you think they are so cheap.

So is Tokico Premium Performance the answer for me? I'm trying to spend under $400 on the shocks. Any suggestions

well, I dont know, but my friend has had them on for about a year and a half, and they feel just as tight as always (kyb). They are not the best shocks but are the best for the price if you are on a budget. Other wise just get the koni"s. Had those on my car for almost ten years and finally one started leaking.

I have had my KYB's front and rear for 5 years with Ford C springs for the same amount of time. They didn't seem to work much better than stock for only 1 year of 5000 miles in that year. They still work, but are soggy. I just put on a tubular K member/arm/coilover setup and found my struts were beat. I went with Tokico front struts-Illumina's. 5 way adjustable and for less than $150 each.

I haven't tried them yet, but have heard great things and they adjust in and out movement and are cheaper than the Koni counterparts.

They have the non adjustable ones too. I think I may go with the adjustable rear shocks to complement the fronts when I get the car roadworthy and like the fronts.

You could get adj. fronts and premiums out back and spend only a little more than the non adj. ones...

I havent used any of the previously mentioned shocks or struts but I'd hope they offer a lifetime warranty... you might wanna check out MONROE... they have lifetime warranties on all thier stuff.. never buy shocks EVER again... they arent RACE shocks or anything but they offer different types that might suite your daily driven needs...
