Quick question on Longtubes...

Just had my Mac longtubes and prochamber installed, and compared to my equal length shorties/off road h combo, this setup is really, really quiet! My question is this: Have any of you guys had the same experience when switching to longtubes? Is it normal to have such a dramatic drop in volume?
Thanks in advance:D

The prochamber is quieter than the of road h-pipe. Did you keep the same mufflers, do you have dumps or pipes?

I've installed long tubes on my present stang and my 85GT that I had before and love the sound.

The sole reason I went to long tubes is they provide more torque and horsepower then shorties do

I'm still using a mac flowpath cat-back...And yes, I definately did seem to pick up ALOT across the rpm range..
It does sound great...Just quiet.

Well if youve always had pipes than i would say the difference is all in the prochamber.

It may be partially from the prochamber, but mostly the longtubes.

I'm guessing the "drone" is about completely gone too right?

I just installed mine a couple weekends ago, and am absolutely amazed at the difference in sound quality.

I will never think twice about longtubes again. Shorties are for wussies!:D

You know, I bet your right. I was conidering some BBK shorties, but now I think I'll get long tubes instead.

:D :D :D

I got the Mac longtubes and i hate the fuckkers! They are always in my way(Than again, I work on my car alot). When we changed out the heads, the driver side header came down and got wedged behind the bellhousing. Took 2 hours to get a engine sling to move the block a inch to pull the bastards out! Now, as far as power with them I am happy. I just think that on my next setup (a 408 if I have it my way), I will be going for simplicity and get some shorties. I think the 408 will overcome any power loss:D

What kind of power increase is to be expected going from a decent set of shorties to long tubes? Just curious...my buddy has a set of Hooker Super Comps that I reaaallly like.... Are there better long tubes out there for the price? I've got shorties right now and no money, but for down the road, longtubes are always a possibility...

I don't know know any specific #'s when going from shorties to longtubes, but, I will say that the switch netted me a major "seat of the pants" gain..

Nixon1 02-27-2003 09:19 PM

Really?? I wouldn't think there'd be THAT big of a gain, seeing as both are designed for performance...

89LXRagtop 02-27-2003 09:56 PM

Maybe the prochamber has something to do with the gain I'm feeling? The shop who installed them for me said probably a 30hp gain over my old setup.. Could be true, I suppose, but, I think the torque increase might be what I'm actually feeling..
I'd still say definately worth the $$ in my book!
:D

Hi,
What brand are we using and where can these be sourced along with price?
I've been away for a while and need to do some catching up!
Thanks.:)
