Mustang is dying
Well, the car is on it's last legs i think. 161,000 very hard miles and at idle i lose oil pressure. I'm thinking about putting in a crate motor from Ford..... Anyone have any comments or knowledge on those.

If you need to spare some time on the engine you could try using 20W50 oil which would help a little on pressure, also if your engine isn't smoking you could replace/regrind your crank, and replace the oil pump, rod and main bearings to last a little longer.
or....you could get a bad@ss crate motor :D As far as i know the crate motors are very reliable and put out the amount of horsepower ford says they do. |
I used to run STRAIGHT 70W in my old pontiac wagon, it was KNOCKING but it got rid of the knock and held up for about a year after. Plus it's fun to watch it pour out the bottle... kinda like adding pudding to your engine..

i got the gt40 crate motor with x heads and i love it... i am not sure about the 345hp ford claims, i havent had it to the track either but the other day was my first real race with the car. I raced a Z06 vette with a buddy in my car and i held right next to him. I started to pull on him when i shifted into 4th then he hit his breaks. This happend like 4times when i raced him. So i am hoping to see high 12's on street tires.

I bought the GT-40 crate with the B cam and iron heads about 5 years back. I have had no problems with it. I know there are probably better and cheaper ways to build a motor, but as far as simplicity, the crate motor is the way to go.
