Vibration in the clutch arm
 

Hello all,

New to this site and working on mustangs in general. I have a vibration in the arm that goes into my clutch. As long as I have the clutch pedal pushed in, even if my foot is just resting on the pedal and moving it say 1" it stops. At idle there is also a whining that stops when I touch the clutch pedal. I went to the local ford dealership and was quoted $800 canadian. STEEP! So I was wondering if anyone has an idea on what it is and what I need to fix the problem.

Sounds like a bad throwout bearing and/or bent fingers on the pressure plate.

At any rate, it should be fixable with a basic clutch job. It's possible that you will need a new bearing retainer, this is part of the transmission. Very easy to replace once the transmission is out.

$800cdn sounds like a lot.

FYI here are some general prices to expect:

Bearing retainer $40us
Throwout bearing $40us
Clutch $100-$150us
+ Labor if you're not doing it yourself.

Just to let you know 800 Canadian is about 600 US...and that was a ford dealership quote.

Well...it's long. When I rebuilt my trans in August last year I spent 11 hours (by myself) getting everything out and about the same (maybe a little less) getting everything back in.

I'll say this: An impact wrench and air compressor will save you time. Especially with the flywheel bolts and the driveshaft bolts.

If you want to do it yourself let me know. I can give you some tips that should speed up the process. Knowing certain things you'll get through it a lot quicker, IMO.
