Water temperture sensor?

Can the water temperture sensor cause the vehicle to run in open loop mode? Does the computer use that sensor on the intake to decied rathier or not it should stay in open loop to warm up the engine. The engine is warming up for sure now but the gauge says under 130 all the time and sometimes it will go up to170. I feels if it is effecting my power when ever the gauge reads higher then 140 i feel as if there is more power. (could just be my imagination)

There is two temp sensors on your mustang. The first one is on the front driverside of the lower intake. It is just for your temp gauge in the dash. The second one is on the heater hose tube between the #1 and the #2 injecter. That is the one that the computer reads for adjustments.

thanks

ECT. engine coolent temp

If your gauge reads low, replacing the ECT will not alter that reading. Like WADS said, the sensor for your temp gauge will not affect the computer operation. If the temperature sensor gauge is correct, you may have another issue - if the engine is really running that cool it could be due to a thermostat that is stuck open. Figure out first if your temp gauge is really off first.

na see my real problem is i think the car is not going into closed loop. I replaced the water temp sensor and that thing was really really black that could of been one of my problems. But i have another question. What is the easiest way to see if the car is running in open or closed loop. Because lately it hasnt been takeing any readings from the 02's is that caused from being in open loop?

thanks guys for responding

I have the same problem atm..gauge reads 130 99% of the time for the last week.

I am going to look into it this weekend to find the source of the problem...

If you find out what it is in the next few days post up what you find...ill do the same by the end of the weekend.

If your car is running in open loop, you will be able to unplug your mass-air and nothing will happen. You can do that to check it.

I dont know i think i am going krazy. I need to buy a darn code reader so i can see how my computer is feeling. Atleast i can tell if i am getting a bad reading from the o2's
