valve problem
ive run into a problem..took my heads off so my friend could bring them into class (we go to UTI) and flow them. During the flowing a mishap occurs...blah blah blah.....bent exhaust valve. I figure..no problem. hes buying me a new one. He does. Its the wrong valve.. the lock groove is higher on the stem than mine... and the valve itself is shaped a little differently.(better) Now we have a problem...according to ford motorsports the valve i bought can be used in gt40 cast iron or aluminum heads... obviously not. Could they have redesigned the valves since i bought my heads 3 or 4 years ago? So now im looking for a valve. 1.54" Gt40 iron/ exhaust valve. please help... i really need to get my car back on the road. The parts guy at the dealership where i got the valve and I cannot figure out why the new one would be different from what I have.

hmm
I dont know a lot about valves, but i do have GT40 heads on my car. The GT40P exhaust valves are slighty smaller than GT40 valves that i know. I dont know about the length though. Are your heads stock built? Could they have been re-done with different valves at some period?
The best thing to do is to find a good machine shop that does head work, they will know whats wrong. |
they're stock heads, sadly...i was supposed to get them ported while the were off but that was put aside. machine shop is a good idea. thanks ill try on monday.

You were going to flow unported gt irons:confused:
Well, mine are ported, and im still not all that happy with them, although my car makes decent power, i just thought id see a bigger improvement. about the valve, i would just buy avalve for a 93-95 cobra, make sure the locks and reatiners are for gt-40's, cuz it seems they have weird retainers or something. hope you fix it. |
