Mustang Fuel Problem

Help! We have a 1998 Mustang and lately when you go to start it, it cranks quite a while before it will start. Someone suggested to my husband to just turn the key until the fuel pump kicks in and shut it off again; do this a few times - and it starts. So, now my husband is convinced that it needs a new fuel pump. I am reluctant to spend the money on this, if by chance there is something else causing this problem. Any suggestions??

I agree with the fuel pump being the problem. Change the pump and filter and the problem should go away.

100 dollar solutions are nothing to complain about when dealing with cars.

It could be alot worse.
