AOD to 5 spd ???

Hello everyone! I was hoping someone could help me out. Im looking for 89-93 GT conv. and can't seem to find one in good shape with 5 spd. I was wondering if anyone knows how much is involved in swapping AOD for 5 spd. I know I will have to get a new pedal assembly. Does the engine ECM have to be changed?
Are there any problems with interior console fit going from AOD to stick? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
The computer doesn't need to be switched. The interior fits for both aod or t5. It took me a good 5 days to get the job done (I work sloooooow). But once the swap is done... the car feels totally different. But if I were you, I'd find a stang with a T-5 already in it.... the swap is alot of work.

are you sure the computer doesn't have to be switched? the computer controls functions of the auto tranny? the aod computer is an a9p, the manual computer is and a9l. you can go from an a9l computer to an auto if you have manual valve body such as a c-4 otherwise isnt the "kickdown" stuff controlled by the computer?

There are differences in the ECM's, but going from an auto to a 5 speed, you can still retain the auto ECM. I wouldn't, but it can be done. An important note to make, however, is that if you do swap ECM's too, you MUST clip the wire going to pin 30, otherwise you will fry the manual ECM.

:)

Take care,

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will definately try to find a car with 5 spd already in it, just wondered how much work was involved going other route. Thanks again!

No need to switch computer.. I never did when I did the swap, I'm running TW heads, E-303 and TT set up with no problems..

You do need to switch over to a manual tranny harness from a auto; the wires that connect to the tranny. Oh and the speedo gear:)
