Front Calipers

Autozone lists different front calipers for an 89GT and a '93 GT. Are they supposed to be different? Will '93 front calipers fit on an '89 GT?

I believe that you would be okay, but before using autozone, try a different parts provider. I am not sure if there was a change in rotor diameter between the years. Only major difference that I can recall is the change from two wheel disc to all wheel disc brakes when the 94's came out.

They shouldn't be different unless they're looking at something like a '93 Cobra caliper. Are you sure they're from the same company? A lot of companies rebuild stock calipers and sell them to parts stores rather than using new Ford calipers.

Here's my situation. I have a set of 93 Cobra wheels. I just bought a complete rear out of a 93 Cobra. I was told that all I needed to do upfront, was to switch to the 93 cobra front rotors. Just out of curiosity, I checked to see if the same front calipers where used on the 93 GT and 93 Cobra. The part numbers matched. Then I checked the 89 front calipers on a GT (because this is the car I have) and it was a different part #. I called the Ford Tech Line in the Motorsports catalog and they told me it didn't matter that the caliper might be different, because ANY rotor from 87-93 will fit ANY Mustang.

I have 89LX 5.0L. My brother has a 93 Cobra. Both cars use the same spindle with no other modifications. The 87-93 5.0L, non-cobra, uses a 11" rotor with 66mm piston calipers. The 93 Cobra uses a 11" rotor with a thicker hat design to account for the different backspacing of the 17x7.5" rims. The calipers on Cobras uses a 73mm piston, instead of a 66mm piston. Just like the ones on the earlier lincolns. We have done the brakes many times so all this is accurate. All parts are inter-changable
