Help!! is my block cracked??
1 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone,
I noticed today coolant leaking out of the front of my engine so I took off the alternator to see where it was coming from. It is a stock 88 GT FI 302 with no mods. I took a picture so you can see exactly where the leak is at. The picture is taken of the left side of the block and waterpump. The coolant is coming out where I circled the picture in red. Is it a crack in the block or is there a spacer in between the water pump and the block with a bad gasket. Any help will be much appreciated. |
It looks like its coming from the timing chain cover. There is a gasket between the cover and the block(timing cover gasket).
I would try removing the timing cover and putting in a new gasket and blue rtv sealant. If you have never changed the water pump, now would be a good time for a new one since it will be off anyways. Also, check that water pump bolt and make shure it is not loose. |

If you're wanting to do a cam swap. Now is the time to do it. All you have to do other than what you already are going to be doing to fix the leak is take the intake off and valve covers off. Just a thought.

Everyone that's posted before me is right. That's a gasket problem unless the bolt from the water pump is loose.
If its not a loose bolt then go get a gasket set, coolant and a balancer puller and you'll be good to go in an afternoon's work. |
