Aod trannys are lock-up unless modified to be non lock-up.
Precision Industries makes non lock-up converters that will work with your factory set-up (no other modifications required), or, if you have a one-piece input shaft (which eliminates lock-up, regardless of converter type) they spline the converter differently. A B&M converter may be cheap, but I dont think it will give you the performance your looking for. Call PI with your questions, they customer service is very helpful and patient. try www.converter.com ------------------ 1993 GT/AOD '93 Mustang GT |
Couple problems here. first, you don't need
to give up lock-up to get more stall. Yes, AOD's do need to be modified to use non-lock. also, do NOT use a "cheap" converter - they don't have the torque multiplication of good converters, as well as durability problems. I got a 2500 lock-up from Art Carr and works super. other good ones are Precision (www.converter.com) and www.levelten.com. for good Ford tech info, see www.baumannengineering.com. for a superb in-depth AOD/E article, check www.tccoa.com, their tech articles, trans section - written by a Ford trans engineer. do some research and learn about your trans before you start buying parts based on cost. |
