I have many Questions???
I know this is alot of questions but I didn't want to make a million posts
1. For a Dry 100 shot ofNOS what should I do to the timing and fuel system. 2. Has anyone every modified there 5.0 to use a tunderbird or 03 4.6L Cobra super charger 3. As far as Tires on a 15in rim what is the max width you can get on there like can you put a 275/50/15 drag radial on a 15. 4. Has anyone ever taken there cooling fan off completely to save HP and just used a cool thermo and watched the water temp 5. Someone told me to take the Stock Quad Shocks off my 5.0 for better launch is this correct. Thanks to everyone that helps me out |
Answers:
1) not sure. Timing shouldn't have to adjust, fuel system a larger 190lph+ pump would be a good investment. 2) Not worth your time. There are plenty of good s/c on the market that will bolt right up and give just as good or better results for a fraction of the time needed to fab up the stuff to make the 4.6L or 3.8L s/c's work. 3) stock 15" rim, 245 is the largest you can go. With aftermarket rims, a 15x8 rim will allow a 275 (which is what I'm using) 4) Stock quad shocks won't allow better traction unless you upgrade your control arms. Only really need to remove them for running larger tires, such as 275's (which is what I had to do) |
1) Upgrade the fuel pump to 190lph(as mentioned above). The last thing you want with NOS is a lean condition. You won't need as much timing advance with NOS. I think the rule of thumb is to retard timing 2* for every 100hp of NOS. Yo will also need to run colder plugs. Start with 2 sizes colder and go from there.
4) If you want to save HP then switch to electric water pump and electric fan setup and convert to manual steering. My best advise to anyone considering running nitrous would be first to buy a book about nitrous. |
Reading the responses prompts me to ask a question:
Everyone talks about removing quad-shocks. I am prompted to wonder weather they do anything at all on the street.... What would happen if I drove around on the street without quadshocks and maybe 275 width tires stuffed onto my 16 inch ponyrims? |
2 rules about nitrous advice. #1 Don't take any. #2 Don't give any. Waaaay too many ideas/opinons/idiots out there. It's best to get yourself some knowledge about it first, be it a book, or a good web article. Then make your own decisions, and do what you think is best. That way IF it comes apart, you go home, look in the mirror and bitch at him.
Here's my OPINION on 100 shot of nitrous. 2@ worth of timing should be sufficient. One step colder plugs, and make damn sure you have enough fuel. Lean is faster & dangerous, Fat is slower and safe. I was running 125 shot, 4@ of timing taken out (16@ base timing, I BELIEVE) and 7 psi fuel pressure (carb). Quad shocks, hmmmmm. I just recently took mine off. Really haven't had the chance to drive it like this though, currently fitting the new 410 in so the car's parked for now. =-( I've heard alot, ALOT of people say you get a bit better 60' times without them. Good luck! |
CrazyPete, if you did that you should run fine on the street. I currently run with 275/50-15's with no quad shocks on the street and strip. No problems. Although with 275s you'll probably end up rubbing on the inside of the fender. I have a small spacer on the wheel to keep that from happening.

Regarding quad shocks, they were designed to help reduce/eliminate excessive wheel hop. |
:) Just confirming what you already said 82GT
|
So 138,000 mile quadshocks are probably just along for the ride at this point, it's safe to assume. Since I have no wheelhop anyway, is it safe to assume I wont have any without quad-shocks? Darnit, I just cant break traction, even with 4.56's. The car just takes off. Sucks when you're trying to show off and the car takes off instead of leaving rubber. I think the solid rate "c" springs are doubling as my wheelhop preventers right now.

I guess in your case it wouldn't hurt you to take them off. Besides that, there are much better aftermarket suspension parts that work better than quad shocks. It's kind of like those factory traction bars that came on my '82GT...they helped a little bit but weren't the best things for traction control. If you have a stock '87-'93 mustang then I would just leave them on there. When people start modding them they usually toss them in favor of something more effective. |
Well, I pulled 400 lbs off the car, mostly off the nose and then added 100 lbs back with the AOD, which is more middle than nose. Then I move the battery to the trunk and I am carrying around about 50lbs of tools right next to it until I'm sure about this setup. Plus I have those rock hard, butt-smashing "c" springs on there. Good for posterior circulation...
I guess it all adds up to good traction. I'm sure after a few burnouts, my tires wont stick the way they do now. The quad shocks are just the 2 horizontal shocks in the fenderwell, right? Why are they called quads if there's only two of them? |
