vaccum leak?
just picked my car up from the performance shop today and he said he thinks its a vaccum leak.....it sqeals pretty loud, is it possible to hear a vaccum leak i belive the leak is right there tween the lower and upper plenum........other than that she runs great......any help!!!

With the engine idling, spray some flammable brake cleaner in the area that you think is leaking. If the idle raises up, then you have a leak.

I wouldn't spray brake fluid, it will kill your sensors in a heart beat. A little propane is best, or spray some water from a water bottle. when you mean squeal, how loud? a loud leak would indicate a big leak, which the car shouldn't run well if at all.

it sqeals pretty loud...i can hear it from inside of the car driving it.....but other than that it runs farely well....it seems to quiet a little when i accelerate....but at idle its farely loud...so you suggest water...and if the idle raises its a vaccum leak ?? thanx guys

if you spray water the car will stumble. if its pretty loud, sounds like it could be something else.. a leak that loud would cause the car to not run. thats me 2 cents.

Which sensors are you referring to that it will kill in a heartbeat? I must be getting real lucky everytime I do this. Andy |

Any brake related products are not to be burned in a motor. If you look on cans, and cleaners, you'll see it says, " safe for 02 sensors " like on fuel injector cleaner etc. etc.. there is a reason for that. it leaves residues that damage the sensors. unless its TBI cleaner, you should never burn them in a EFI car or anything with 02 sensors, or intake sensors etc. Thats a general rule with all cleaners. like you shouldn't use gum out on a efi car etc.

The amount of brake cleaner required to find a vacuum leak wont damage squat.

you can spray it if you want, I would never spray a product down your intake, your just adding more variables to the mix down the road. My 2 cents.

Just spray some Natty Ice on the gasket area. If your car gags, it's a vacuum leak. If not, you haven't wasted much of anything to find out. End of discussion.
