MUST HAVE QUIETNESS NOW
ok guys i have asked this question before to other people what is the most quiet cat back system that i can by? I mean as quiet as the stock mufflers but not as restrictive?
i have not yet to come by a nice really quiet cat back. |
Actually, the stock mufflers aren't all that restrictive, it's the 4 cats that restrict flow. Aftermarket mufflers are a bit less restrictive (less chambers/packing) and quite a bit louder than stock, as you know.
I run the Walker DynoMax Super Turbos cat back system on a near-stock '90 LX and have found them to be about 10% louder at idle and low speeds, and about 20% louder at WOT. About as good as you'll get (for sound) with an aftermarket system that is still less restrictive than stock. |
If you want quiet with the least amount of restriction, take a look at some 96-98 Cobra mufflers. These mufflers flow as well as most aftermarket mufflers, without the loudness of the aftermarkets. Also, the Edelbrock RMS series mufflers are pretty quiet.

I just installed a 2.5" dynomax super-turbo catback & the sound is aweful! (I've also got hi-flow cats, 10:1 compression & the crane 2031 cam).
The mufflers are only 14" (stock is 18"). This allows more of the long wavelength (low RPM) sounds through (un-muffled). It's like I have open pipes at 2000RPM. Above 2500RPM, it's quiter than my stock worn out mufflers were. I'm gonna try installing some resonators/glass packs in front of the mufflers (on the flow tubes). Hopefully that'll muffle the low end sound, and I'll still have the high flow mufflers. Summit price matched (excessive motorsports) the stainless steel kit for $249. A lot of people are happy with the Mac's, but I didn't want a chambered muffler, or chrome pipes that'll discolour. |
walker makes a high performance muffler
that is suppose to flow and is qiuet its called the walker quiet flow ...i think dont know much about the # didnt look bad |
Try magnaflow, they are just a little bit louder than stock. They are real sleeper muffler.
