No Headlights, Radio or Dash Lights

Hello.

I've had an intermittent problem with my headlights cutting out, along with my stereo and dashboard lights. When this happens, my air bag light will flash a certain number of times (it's been different).

This time, the airbag light is flashing 3 times, pause, 3 times, pause, etc.
And the lights, dash and stereo are out, and are not coming back on at all.

I have seen the http://www.veryuseful.com/ info, but don't really know what to do with it, or know whether or not it's relevent.

I drive a '90 5.0.

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you!

Ian

maybe a loose ground or connection

Not sure on a '90, but here goes. There's a large black wire with an orange stripe, comes from the connections at the starter relay, goes into the cockpit. Has a fusible link in it. Check for loose connections, or a bad/weal fusible link. Sometimes the factory solder on those links gets kinda cruddy. Don't hold me to the wire color, on my car the black/orange feeds half the fuse block (headlights, dash, radio) and the big yellow one feeds the other half, as well as the rear defroster and a few other things.

Good Luck!

how are your fuses? which one (if any) are blowing? i had no instrument cluster lights for a long time, the 5 amo fuse (#13?) kept blowing. found a loose wire in my radio compaertment making contacting and causing a short.

i also had the headlight flickering problem, common is mustangs. first off, dont run your fog lights if u have them (stock wiring sucks). Second, if u have high wattage "blue headlight" bulbs, take them out immediately as the stock wiring cannot handle that power. my problem was the multifunction switch (turn signal lever). bought one on ebay for $10, solved my problem.

Well, none of my fuses are blowing.
No fog lights, and no high wattage bulbs.
I replaced the multifunction switch with one from the junkyard, but to no avail.

Did you have the air bag light flashing with your problem?

I had the same problem with my headlights a while back. I had to pull of the dash cluster and behind the headlight switch there is a big plug(wiring harness) with about 10 wires attaching to the switch. One of the wires was shorted and had melted half of my plug. Went to the Ford place and bought a new wire harness for the headlights and spliced it in. Been 2yrs and no problems.
