I have a 84 stang gt changing out 302HO motor with a 84 351W HO i got out of 86 f250 the motor i think has been rebuilt, pistons have 040 stamped on them. will this motor bolt up to my automatic transmission and does anybody know what gears are in the differential?How about changing cam?Don't have any info on cam in motor.

Yes, the engine will bolt up to the transmission. The gears in your car are prolly 3.08 or 2.73's.

There are other items involved in a 351W swap that you didnt mention. Flywheel or flexplate with the correct imbalance, oil pan, headers, etc... I assume you know all that stuff already.

You will need a 157 tooth flywheel or flexplate that has a 28 oz imbalance. The one thats in your car now (if nothing has been changed) is a 50oz imbalance. You will need an oilpan and oil pump pickup designed for the 351w in a fox body. Ford Racing Parts has both of these items. There are several places that sell 351 swap headers, just depends on if you want longtubes or shorties.

Im sure there are some things I am missing, Im sure someone else will be along to fill in the gaps.

Thanks. Can i use flywheel, oil pan, oil pump from my 302HO i'm taking out ?

You better make sure that it is an 86 351 you're using. 81 and later models did use the 50 oz setup. So you may be able to use your 302's flywheel. You can not use your oil pump and oil pan from the 302. The 351's pump is longer and uses a different size driveshaft from the distributor. Since the pump is longer, the 302 pan won't bolt up. If the motor did come from an 86 f250, it'll be fuel injected so you will need to get a new intake manifold for the 351. And you will also need to get a duraspark distributor for a 351 to mate with your existing ignition system--if it's still stock. What kind of info are you wanting to know about changing cams? Are you looking for recommendations or some insight on how to change it?

Andy's right, you probably have 2.73's or 3.08 rear end gears in that car. And if the motor does have the 28 oz imbalance, you will need a 28 oz 157 tooth flywheel. ;)

I'm pretty confident that all 351w's are 28oz, regardless of the year.

Ford Racing Parts sells an oil pan swap kit (M-6675-A58). It comes with the pan, pickup, dipstick, dipstick tube, and main stud. The oil pans will not interchange between the 302 and 351 because the W has 3" mains, where the 302 has 2.248inch mains.

Are you using a stick or automatic?

The motor that came out of f250 is an 84 per the block castings and has a 4bbl intake the 302 is a 84 302HO. I am looking for recommendations for the cam. Also reason for change of motors is #4 cylinder leaks antifreeze comes out of sparkplug hole, changed heads and intake think block is warped. It's an automatic.

Just look at the balancers from the 302 and the 351 you have. If the counterweights look the same, then you can use your flywheel. You don't want to get to crazy on your cam selection if you are going to use stock intake, carb, and heads. The valve springs on those heads won't stand much lift over .490 with more than 280* of duration. That is just a ballpark figure to go by and by no means is it exact. If it's in good shape, I'd leave the stock cam in it.

Thanks. Carb is edelbrock 650, heads have new everything,looking for new intake and pistons are flat top with 040 stamped on them.
