who would like to see a new racing block?
Hello all my fello ford fanatics, I'm asking imput on who would like to see a new ford block made? I will give you a short background on why im asking, first of all im a ford freak and im tired of seeing all of these aftermarket companies making high quality affordible race blocks for the bow tie boys, and not reconising the some what weak ford block. Next im not some person who is taking a personal pole for my own benifit, I work at World products ( the people who brought you the Windsor & windsor Jr. cast iron cylinder heads) Im trying to convince the higher powers to design a racing block something similer to their new Motown block. So here is what im asking, I would like your imput on what you would like to see in a new block. For example what size, how much would you pay, and anything else that you may have in mind. Your responce will be greatly appriceated.

8.2" deck height, somewhat similar to the sportsman block but a little stronger. Don't need anything as strong or as expensive as the R302 though.

something like the R302 both in price and quality is something i think would catch a real market.

Just add the R302 and A4 together. 4 bolt main, reinforced webbing, siamesed bores, and COOLING capabilities! That is why i won't run an R302. Give me something i can run on the street. And i must give you props for this! Great idea.

Everything NoSlo5.0 said with one adition. The cam bore be drilled large enough to run roller bearings. It cost me $185 dollars at the local machine shop. If I could get a 4-bolt block I could run a full roller and that would cool better, that would be freakin awesome.

Hmmmm...to bad Ford didn't have the windsor engines share a few more components.
I would go for a 8.2 deck height engine featuring 351 mains, fastners, timing chain cover, harmonic balancer, flywheel, oil pan ect. So that the only difference would be the rods (even then I would go for rods that were the correct length to mount 351 windsor pistons), pistons, pushrods, and lower intake. As for the block I would go siamesed bores, 1/2 or 3/4" deck (nothing like an 1-1/2" of metal with a itty bitty gasket in between), solid main webs, solid pan rails, a common main cap featuring splayed 4 bolt mains (like a girdle and 4 bolts mains all in one). blind bolt holes, screw in freeze plugs, screw in galley plugs, smooth cast waterjackets, and I guess a few more things that I can't think about? |
