tranny or U-joint making noise?

In my 88GT(5 speed), if I accelerate hard, there is a metallic clicking from under the car. It's pretty loud and sounds like something is about to break.
If I pull out slow, it doesn't do it but there is always a slight vibration while driving down the road.
Is this a bad U-joint or something wrong with the tranny?

I usually pick up on my u-joints going bad when I put the vehicle into reverse. The change in direction will generally cause a "clunking" sound. Have you noticed that at all?

Yep, it does it forward and reverse.

U joints it is. Change both of them. If one is bad, the other isn't far behind. ;)

And they're cheap too. I always change those first, and then look for other problems like wheel bearings, etc.

This is a good opportunity to buy yourself a new, balanced aluminum drive shaft. :)
