'88 GT convertible top problem
My top stopped working last Sunday. It has always worked fine. I was in the process of closing it and had it almost closed enough to latch. I pulled the switch to bump the top closed to latch it and that's when I heard the click behind the rear seat and the top motor did not work. It hasn't worked since. What can I do to verify it's the pump/motor before I go to the trouble of changing it.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, |
Re: '88 GT convertible top problem
There are two switch relays, one up, one down and the pump.
If you activate the switch and you hear a click, then the switches are working. If you don't, then the switch at the console is bad or the pump is bad. Take the back seat out (it just pops out), remove the two 5/16 or 1/2 bolts holding the upright back seat and take that out. Listen to the switches which are right next to the pump. If it doesn't move in either direction, check the switch at the console and the pump. www.50resto.com for parts right to your door. good luck, I have part numbers if you need them. I have done this many times... |

Thanks for the reply.
So, basically, if both switch relays at the pump work via the console switch then we know the console switch and the relays are good and the pump is bad? Thank you, |
Re: '88 GT convertible top problem
Yeah, the switch is a unusual failure item. My pumps have lasted on average 4-5 yrs and I operate my top several times a day.
Good Luck... |
