Shakedown Cruise

Well, thrashed on the car last week to get it done for Fun Ford. Then I decided after what happened last year, that I wanted to take the car out somewhere BEFORE FFW. So, Monday I test fired the motor, and found out I have throwout bearing issues. Called RAM, and got the part # for the correct one. Tuesday I worked on 2 trucks at my shop, then ran to Summit around 5:00. Got home around 7:00, threw down some dinner, and had the car back together with the new throwout bearing at midnight. Wed morning, I redid my exhaust hangers, and took the car around the block. Loaded her up, and hauled azz to Dragway 42 for the shakedown.

RIGHT OFF THE TRAILER after 2 years apart, she went a 12.29 @ 115, with an idiot trying to shift gears in a pro-shifted tranny for the first time. Readjusted the vavles, checked plugs, checked timing. charged battery (alt issues) Then I found out that the street class up there is only allowed to go 12.00 or slower. Soooo, I dialed in at 12.00 for first round, and I was gonna let it rip and breakout, go home. By this time it's 11:30 at night, and I'm over an hour from home. Ran 12.13 @ 105 on the brakes, decided I wanted to win instead. :D Back to the pits, charged the battery. Didn't have enough time to fully charge it before 2nd round, so I decided this was it. Ran 11.9001 @ 118.42 for the breakout loss. ;) hehehehe

Sorry for the long story, but I wanted to share. Knew you'd all be happy to hear about it. Car DEFINITELY has more in it, it'll go 10.90 after I spray some Raid in there and get rid of all the bugs!

Are you implying that you plan on running nitrous? :D

Re: Shakedown Cruise

Eh, not yet. I meant getting all the stupid little stuff tuned. Haven't TOUCHED the carb or distributor yet, think I also have a bad fuel pressure regulator. Changing the clutch cable, LEARN HOW TO SHIFT IT  , etc etc. And a GOOD tune. That kinda stuff.

Might spray it later, the cheater system is already on the car. It has "hyper" pistons in it though, so I'll go easy with the squeeze if I do.

Oh..I see now. Hey, can you spray a little of that D-con stuff on my engine so it will run 12's like it's supposed to? :D

That's much better than last year, Jester. Congrats on the 11.90! Are you gonna run any NMRA races?

Just got back from Fun Ford Weekend! WOOO HOOO! 11.262 @ 121.29 MPH!!!!! This Mo-Fugger RIPS!

Hurt the motor a smidge, bent a pushrod and screwed up a rocker and guide plate. Gotta pay attention to that shift light, bug dummy! Not a bad fix though.

We're talking about hitting NMRA in Columbus, gotta check up on the rule book and see where I fit in though. :D

Re: Shakedown Cruise

Congrats!!
What is your new setup now?

~The Jester~ 07-12-2005 08:50 AM

Re: Shakedown Cruise

Simple setup! 347 stock block, FRPP bottom end with a girdle. Flat top KB hypers (icky) Edelbrock Victor Jr intake, Holley 750, killer Cam Motion cam, prototype Canfield Heads, little pee-pee 1 5/8" headers with little pee-pee 2 1/2" exhaust. Ram clutch, soon to be Pro-Motion Kevlar, Tremec TKO II proshifted by Pro-Motion. Aluminum FRPP driveshaft, 4.30 gears on a stock Exploder posi carrier with 31 spline Strange axles. Big nasty fuel system. Did my homework on the fuel system, and trust me it's worth it!

Not sure why this sucker screams like it does, but I was shifting at 7,500 and she was still pulling HARD! I got in-car footage from FFW, just have to figure out how to get it from the camera to my compooper, then you guys can see the show.

I'm frigginn' ecstatic about this car! Better than I ever imagined! Thanks for all the congrats guys!!! :D

Time to go Mouse Hunting!!! Maybe even a Rat or two.....

Re: Shakedown Cruise

Jester, what class did you run in at FFW?

~The Jester~ 07-12-2005 07:29 PM

Re: Shakedown Cruise

I ran Quick Ford at FFW, I'm under the impression that NMRA is all radial tires. In which case I gotta go but some. ???

Here's the in-car footage. Forgive the huge bog, but figured that out on the next pass. This was only my 4th pass in the car, so I was still seeing where she wanted shifted at. Not a great video, but you'll get the idea. Can't see the boards, but this particular pass was 11.41 @ 118.63

Found this pic from FFW. 11.41 pass

Fuel system, Hmmmm. Whatcha wanna know? Sump, -12 to the Product Engineering filter, -12 to the BG400 pump, -8 return right off the pump, -10 up to the front of the car, into a Magnafuel fuel log. 2 Magnafuel 2 port regulators, 2 -6's up to the carb, and -3 returns from the regulators to a Y block, then -6 back to the tank.
