What year did Ford go to roller blocks?

Was it '85, are they stronger than roller blocks.
Is a hydro flat tappet lifter as streetable as roller lifters?
Thanks
Wes

1986 were the roller blocks first years, if I remember correctly.

Don't think they are any stronger. The Mexican blocks are stronger, higher nickel content.

Yep, just as streetable, but you can get a MUCH more aggresive opening and closing events with the roller lifter.

1985 was the first year for the roller blocks. They are not any stronger. And a hydraulic roller cam is better than a flat tappet cause like gearhead999 said, you can more aggressive with them.

The 1985 CFI engines had flat tappet blocks. The 1985 HO engines that came w/ a 5 speed were rollers. The F150's started using roller blocks in 1988, even though they didn't start using roller cams until 1992.
