Bad tourque boxes?
This mostly happens when I am driving slow. I hear a clunking sound coming from my right rear. I hear it a lot while turning at low speeds. Sometimes when I hit a bump it will make the noise. Is this one of my torque boxes going bad? If this is the problem how soon should I fix it and how much will it cost?
Any other ideas on what this could be? It almost sounds like the exhaust hitting something. |
In my past experience a bad torque box will make the car steer funny. Does it steer funny when you are on the gas or off the gas?

The car does not steer funny.

Torque boxes generally only go bad after an accident where the rear axle gets whacked, or a lot of racing on slicks with a solid type lower control arm i.e. Southsides.
It is probably your exhaust hitting, what lower control arms do you have in it? |
Check and make sure your upper and lower control arm bolts are there and tight. Also like exgmguy said check and see if exhaust is rubbing somewhere. If it is your torque boxes you can actually see them tearing at least on mine you could. When my torque boxes ripped it felt like the rear had a mind of it's own, and was going the opposite way I was.

Mine are tore back right now, from southsides and slicks. how did you guys go about fixing them and how much should I expect to pay? my buddies stang makes the noise you are describing and it's from the mufflers, hooker areo chambers.

byrnech, You can buy a product like wild rides torque box reinforments www.wildridesracecars.com or if they are not too bad they can be worked back to where they need to be and welded up.
