Leaky heater core help
 

My heater core in an 89 gt is leaky.. or so i think ( where the vent were to blow on your feet has water dripping ).. anyway i just need some help from anyone who has tried to get it out so that i can get it repaired... school is just about to start and i really want to get this fixed in time.

I changed out my heater core twicei n about 2 months. The 1st one I bought ended up being bad. I bought "Mustang 5.0 Projects" by Houlahan. Picked it up at Hastings. One of the best books I have bought in a while. They take you through a step by step instruction, to include what the bolt sizes are, along with pictures, on how to change out your heater core. Definately money well spent. They also go through like 15 other repairs/add-ons. Just thought I would share that incase you wanted a little better instructions than Chiltons.

Before you tear into your dash, check your floor board on the passenger side and see if your carpet is wet. Make sure you have plenty of anti-freeze also for identification purposes. That way you can see what color it is when its dripping from your vents. If you need a quick fix for now, you can by pass your heater core by cutting or undoing the heater core hoses and buying a 3.00 coupling from your local plumbing store. You just won't have a heater.

Here's a nice write up on how to do it WITHOUT discharging your AC - I've done it twice, and cut a flap in the housing to remove it, sealed it with silicon. Good luck

It's best if you can do it yourself. I once had someone do mine and it cost around $1100 dollars and only lasted about 4 months. The replaced it for free and that only lasted another couple months. Now it's bypassed and I figure I'll spend $40 on a jacket vs. dealing with it. Plus it's california and it doesn't get too cold.
