Rear shoulder belts in an '86 coupe
Has anyone ever retrofited rear shoulder belts in a Fox bodied coupe not originally equiped? It seems it would be fairly easy since it was a bit of an afterthought on the 90-93 cars.
The lap belts lock and hold my kid's car seats in pretty well, but they are growing and someday soon will only need a booster seat. I can't do this unless there are rear shoulder belts. Larry '86 Mustang LX 5.8 |
Re: Rear shoulder belts in an '86 coupe
Hey,
The mustangs I'm sure you know, only had lapbelts until 1989. Then in 1990 the air bags was introduced and so was the rear selt shoulder belts. The '90 and ups had an extra anchor welded on top of the rear shock area, and that nessesitated a different interior panel. I used to have 90 GT that had a red interior and I had a 89 GT parts car that had a grey interior. When I went to change the interiors that is when I discovered the difference. You might be able to have the rear shoulder belt anchor cut off of another car and have it welded into your car. You would probably need a bit of a 90 and up interior to cover the anchor. That panel that fits there is pretty large. I'm sure it could be done. :) |
