What combo to do?

Hello mustang fans, I am new to the site and been reading alot and wanted to see what you guys think of what I have and what to go with it on a budget for best results. I just recently bought my new pride, 87 T-top GT, so now where to go with it. I got a good deal on these items and want to finish my combo so tell me what you think I should get for Heads and Cam. The engine is fully stock (been rebuilt) 3.73 gears, underdrive pulleys, shorty headers, 2.5 h-pipe off road, and flowmasters which is the usual.

These are the items I got for $500

GT40 Intake
24 lb injectors
65mm TB/EGR spacer
Adjustable fuel pressure Regulator
Computer out of 90 GT with Mass air flow meter

I was offered a set of GT40x heads with port job for $550 today while getting subframe connectors installed, so let me know if you think that is a good deal, I am on a budget so I can't really afford new afr heads.

Thanks

the x heads are a great deal if they are they are ported correctl. if not from what i have seen the flow numbers are very stock to stock w/ he gt40p heads and the gt40x heads. i just picked up a set for 200 for the pair.just keep in mind that the headers are a little different than reg due to the spark plug angle, nut have heard of people using bbk long tubes w/ great luck.

Re: What combo to do?

so will there be a problem with the regular shorty headers? For the cam I think I'll call comp cams once I get the specs of the heads and all so they can tell me what I will need.

i see your in va beach. im about 3 hours from you- its a little bit of a ride but your welcome to come see if your headers will bolt up to my head w/o any plug interference. if they do and you decide to go w/ a set you could end up saving 700-800 dollars compared to aluminum heads. not to bad when on a budget.

Re: What combo to do?

then i would just buy the p headers that go w/ the heads and there will be no worries. they take a regular h-pipe stock or aftermarket.

nice, I need to get a suspension, and upgrade my brakes also which sucks cause I want to work on the motor more but I have to think about being able to stop also cause the stock braking sucks.

Re: What combo to do?

i have th gt40p heads, not the x head and i havent gotten a set yet. i am waiting for the fun ford classic in a few weeks. my heads are also going on a 351w so headers will be intresting.unless i cant get the headers to work out then i will be sellingg my heads to someone will be using them on a 5.0 and has more header options available and can get a set to work no problem. but my plans are to go w/ the bbk long tubes and see if they work. they do on 5.0's so im hoping they will on 5.8's

Re: What combo to do?

im in the same situation. i have a 79 and the brakes suck. also waiting for the 7.5 rear to blow up before i upgrade to 8.8. hate to get ride of it so soon it already has a 4:11 rear gear.

Re: What combo to do?

I am hoping the gt40x heads will be worth it and will make a good combo with the right cam and the gt40 intake. I didn't think that headers would be a problem so if anyone has the gt40x heads let me know please. I want to get ceramic headers anyways soon so that would be a good reason to get them before I install the heads.

Re: What combo to do?

I am glad I got on this website cause I now think I have found out what the problem is with my car losing power at higher rpms. This is an awesome website for mustang crazy ppl like me. Wish I would have got on here sooner.

I think I will buy those heads tomorrow and then research a cam. Since the GT40 intake has been ported also I think I will be in business once all said and done. Then Ill just work on the suspension and brakes before I add any more power.

Re: What combo to do?

Yep this website has helped me in the past tremendously.
I know a little about budget, look at my combo, my heads and intake are off a early 97 ford explorer.
There was some confusion early in the thread, only the gt40 p's need a special header for the spark plug angle, the x, y and regular 40's like mine can use factory 5.0 headers, or aftermarket.
good luck.
