17" 9/10" rims

I have converted my 87 mustang gt to 5 lugs so I can change to the newer rims. Right now my car has 17" 8' rims all the way around. I had to install lowing spring in the front to (IMPROVE THE CAR STANDS) get the nose of the car out of the air. I would like to use 9" rims up front and 10" rims out back, have any one of you guys use this size rim on a fox body car.

The 9" wheel will fit front and rear. With a 10" rim you will need to be extremely choosey in your wheel selection (backspacing is very important). Not many will fit. You also need to consider massaging the inner wheel lip if it hasn't been done. I currently have the 5.95 backspacing Cobra R rim with a stock width axle, and I have just enough clearance at ride height between the rear shock and wheel lip (rolled). I have no rubbing issue but no obvious additional room to play. The wider wheel will push out the tire wall a little more than the same tire on a 9". I know Kenny Brown used to run a 10" rim in the back of the FOX platform. I'll have to look through some of my old paperwork for an old catalog of theirs - I think I may have trashed it though.

Thanks for the reply .what tires are you running with the 10" in the rear. I ran a wide tire in the rear before a 265-50-15 with no problems.
I see your are in Va. I guess great minds- Well you know.

Re: 17" 9/10" rims

I was unable to get ahold of the 10" wide wheels - they had already stopped making them when I was finally ready to make a purchase. I currently run the Cobra R's so my Brembo front brakes will fit. The only other option at the time was to get a custom wheel for an ungodly price which I passed on. I currently run BF Goodrich KDW 255's on the front and a Potenza RE730 275's in the rear. The RE730 and RE750 has more of a sharp 90* turn vs rounded edge at the tires footprint to side wall transition and it fits the 9" rim very well. Also one of the better wet traction tires I've found. (Of course at the expense of dry traction). If you send me an email to richs347@aol.com I can send you some pics of what kind of room you may have. I also have a panhard rod to keep the axle housing from moving around.
