fuel rail?
Hey guys, what advantage does an aftermarket fuel rail have over the stock one, other than the looks? I need to get a rail that has a fitting to test the pressure and mine does not have it. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks |
Re: fuel rail?
Aftermarket fuel rails need to be used in very high horsepower applications because their larger I.D. allows for greater fuel flow. There is some dissent as to where the stock rails no longer provide enough fuel flow in terms of horsepower (this is especially so because so few cars actually need them), but I don't think you should start even comtemplating them until you're at or above 500hp or so. Unless you want them for looks, that is.

Re: fuel rail?
Like Unit says, higher horsepower applications really benefit from the increased fuel flow. However, even moderate HP applications can see an improvement with reduced starvation at the injectors, particularly because of the 6-5 pulse. On the engine dyno, we've seen lower EGT's on #5 with an aftermarket rail because it isn't so affected by #6 firing right in front of it.

Re: fuel rail?
Did anyone really help this guy?
What year car? mods? There is a factory shcrader valve on the fuel rail on all efi 5.0's to my knowledge, actually it's on the fuel line coming up from the passenger side lower area, and the stock regulator can be replaced with an adjustable one. later |
Re: fuel rail?
Good read Coupe.....missed the second part of the question. Correct. Use the schrader valve on the factory rails. You can buy complete gauge kits from Accel, BBK and others. You can also get a temporary fuel pressure test kit from Actron at Sears for about $40 that will have fittings to work with most import and domestic systems.
