Burnt Plug Wire

Ok, so I am still having some clearance issues with my World Products Windsor Sr. Aluminum heads and my ******* headers. Although I have not confirmed it, I am fairly sure I smoked a plug wire already, and I just put these on 2 months ago. Problem is, I can't find a plug boot that will go on the plug without touching the header. I will post pics later. I am also gonna call World products and gripe (again).

Any one have suggestions? And I am already running the dang shorty accel plugs.
thanks
Ryan

These are the Taylor Wires that they recommended, I chose right angle this time around.

no, the plug is angled perfectly so it exits right towards the middle of that tube. It might be worse doing that actually.

First, I just want to let everyone know that World Products tech help SUCKS.....and TAYLOR wires was very good. The guy from World acted like this is the first time he has ever heard of this. he dumped me on Taylor and they advised they have a lower profile plu boot, which they are sending me free of charge to see if it will work. So here are my options and the order I hope to go in.

1 - use the new boot and the boot protectors posted in this thread.

2 - Use a big F'n pry bar and get pissed

3 - pull the header off and have Midwest (local go fast fab shop)hook me up.

I would have already done #3, but I dont want to extend that tube out any, it is a close fit getting it in there with the engine in as it is.

i used to burn plug wires like a mother but my buddy recommended these insulators that go around the plug wire. believe it or not i bought them off the shelf at autozone. they are like 40 bucks. worth it after you smoke a couple sets of wires.

i can tell you right now just by looking at those pics its those headers.the dont come out of the flange far enough before they bend.they just bend out.my bbk's come out about 2" then bend.
looks like you have room for a wider header too.

BBK for what combo? The new plug boots clear, but didnt fix the running issue.

these are 351 for a fox but you can get a header for your car that is not so close to the heads like that.jba makes a nice mid header or long tube for your year.those headers must be for the stock heads,i know alot of fox owners have that problem when they put a aftermarket header on a stock head.thers alot of companies that make off the shelf headers for your car that will fit and are not so close to the head.mustangs unlimited has a complete catologe on your body style.edelbrock makes headers for it too.

I may have to switch, I just didn't wanna give up my full length headers.

you dont have to use shorty headers that was just an example.lol these are tri y headers from mustangs unlimited.but theres so many companies that make great headers.i would really look into it,those ones you have are too tight for your heads. the ones in my car are full length.

Are you aware that I have an AOD? I have never found a Full Length header for the AOD in a 65.

Re: Burnt Plug Wire

most of those are auto,my friend matt has a 66 with a 408/aod combo running full length headers.

Re: Burnt Plug Wire

Can you find out what brand he bought? What transmission they were designed for (like a c-4)?? The AOD is wider, therefore I had to do some tweaking on mine years ago to get them to work.

If you could, also ask him if he had to do any mods to his to get them to clear

Re: Burnt Plug Wire

my friend said he did the same thing with a torch and prybar but his headers cleared the plugs.he also told me that he is going to change them to the jbas there not as long as full length but there not shortys.he said the way his exhaust is to much direct heat on the tranny and the tranny tube runs alot hotter than normal.
