Question about the TFI module

Hy,

I French, my name is Florent and I'm assembling an engine which uses a gray TFI module from a 1986-1993 Mustang. So I search what coil I can use.
I would like to use a Pertronix coil with a 0.6 ohm primary resistor or a msd blaster 2 but don't they have too low primaries resistance? What is the maximal current that the TFI can produce safely to the coil?

Thank you very much for your answers. And sorry if I'm difficult to understand.

Florent

your not difficult to understand, and your suspicions are good ones, but I have never seen a current "rating" on the TFI. Why not run a 89-95 Ford coil? The systems is rated at 90 joules which is pretty darn good ofr a stock ignition.

Re: Question about the TFI module

ok, thank you tmoss :)

So what are the main characteristics of the 89-95 Ford coil?Because it's easier for me to choose a coil with its characteristics than find a specific Ford coil.

In fact, I would like to improve my ignition, that's why I would like to use a coil with a lowest primary resistance but I must mind to don't burn the TFI!

I hope the weather is fine at your place, at ours, the winter comes back !!!

Re: Question about the TFI module

What do you think about an MSD Blaster TFI Coil?
According to the MSD website, there shouldn't be any problems but I feel the primary resistance too low. What are your opinions?

I use the TFI just to amplify the output signal of a safeguard and I haven't an MSD hy-fire but But I don't understand if I can use this kind of coil without an hy-fire. Do you know it?

Re: Question about the TFI module

even though the primary has less resistance, I doubt it is enough to casue damage to the TFI because it was designed to work with the TFI. If it did cause damage, they would not be able to sell many - word would get out fast that they cause the TFI to burn up if that was the case. I think you can use it and not worry.

Re: Question about the TFI module

I'd just installed a msd street fire TFI coil for my 5.0 mustang and so far, it works great! I kept the original one in handy, just in case, because it still functions.
