buying a 1993 LX 5.0 SE
 

i am looking into buying a 1993 5.0 LX SE. It was owned by an old lady and has 20,000 miles, from other mustang owners what would be a fair price for this beast? kbb says about $8500. i just dont want to pay too much, or rip them off. these people are family friends. i dont know why old ladies like big fast cars. thanks for any help. the car is in pristine shape everything is solid and working only driven to chirch on sundays and other short trips. it was kepted inside most times when it wasn't it was under a cover.

I would make an offer 6 to 10 percent lower. She might take the offer. Remember its your hard earned money. But with only 20k on the clock it sounds like a good deal to me. If you get it switch it over to synthetics for years of trouble fun. Good luck.

I'm guessing it's an auto. You don't mention whether or not it's a vert, I'm going to assume it's not.

5.0L 302ci, OHV pushrod V-8.
205hp@4200rpm, 285lb/ft@3600rpm.

0-60 7.0sec 1/4mile 15.0@95ish. It will depend on your driving skills and your track conditions.

Even though the 1993 cars were re-rated at 205hp, they are not really any different from the 1989-1992 cars that were rated at 225hp. Those cars probably all make a little more than 205, but not as much as 1987-1988.

It's pretty easy to get much improved performance over stock with very little money invested into the cars. For $500, you should be able to knock the car down to the mid 14's.

What does SE stand for? I never heard of that on a mustang.

Rick, SE is for Sedan, or otherwise known as notchback, coupe.....

actuallt the 302 is a 4.9l, something that most people dont think about, but with that much power, why not call it a 5.0???

302 is 4949cc, which is 1cc away from 5.0l(if you round the numbers).

What is she asking for it? If she's higher than bb, then let her know that's all car's worth and that's all insurance would pay if it were totalled or an unrecovered theft, and you don't want to get screwed for the difference. that page has some good info. unit is right, though, that the cars are really no different from the other 89-92 cars that were rated 225/300. b/c its an auto, it's gonna run a high 14/low 15 (you can see the times for my vert below). i'd say 7500 b/c of the low mileage.

well it is auto (blah) and it is a vert but the SE is special edition, or limited edition i did not know what the abriv. is so...one of 1500 made in 93. BowTieEater - I believe the reason they didn't call it a 4.9L instead of a 5.0L is because then people would get it confused with the straight six truck engine. They had the 4.9L, 5.0L, 5.8L, and 7.5?L (460) in the trucks for quite some time and by the time they converted engine sizes from cubic inches to metric Liters there were two very different engines with similar displacement. Plus the "5.0L" was designed to be upscale from the 4.9L so by making the engine size "larger" and designing it with more power than the 300-6 it became a more expensive/"better" option. I believe the 300 straight six started off as a 240ci engine in the sixties, but i'm not sure when they increased the stroke to make it a 300....anyways, At least this is what i THINK they had in mind.

I'll throw in my 2 cents since no one else seems to know what the hell they are talking about.

Jeez, 'SE', hmm... 'Special Edition' - aka 'Limited Edition', aka 'Feature Car'.

The white car you have pictured would be one of ~2500 made (don't know the breakdown of auto/5-speeds for the white cars - sorry, but there were fewer 5-speeds made)

$8500 would be a steal w/ so few miles. Collectibility potential is decent on the cars, wanted more than standard hatch/coupe/GT/conv, but won't be as desirable as Cobra's or SVO's.

One last thing - sedan/coupe, same thing. Never heard of a 2-door sedan? Haven't been into cars very long have ya?

Is it a yellow "SE" ? I heard that the yellow one's are called the " Summer Edition". Sounds like a cool car. I'd problably snatch it up.

Just to let you guys in on a secret it seams SE on a LX means sports edition the only change is it gets GT seats and not the wimpy LX ones When i bought my car the dealer coudnt find the diffrence on the se spec sheat so he looked it up and it was just the seat change.
