I really need help deciding on an intake.......

Hey, I own a 94 gt with underdrves, mac headers, mac offroad, mac catback, jet chip, mac cold air intake, jet chip 3:73 gears and kirban shifter. I want to get an intake next but im not sure on what intake to buy. GT-40, holley, TFS, edelbrock. I also don't want to get rid of my stock hood. Please help me decide. Thnk You!!!!!!!!!!

Get a Cobra intake.
They fit fine and can handle up to 400 HP without giving away anything on the low end. The Cobra is a best-seller for good reason - they work well and are an excellent value.

Also thick enough walls so if you decide to extrude hone, you have some growing room...

I agree on the Cobra - $399 from PAW and it made a world of difference.

how dose the GT-40 intake compare to the cobra..is it worth the extra $$$..and if anyone knows where to get a GT-40 intake cheap and or cheaper hook it up

P.S. is it save to buy used intakes?

By the time summer comes ill have full Mac exhaust, new shifter knob and what ever else i can afford

I also want a GT40 intake. I like the way it is designed and it just makes more power across the entire powerband. I think its worth the extra bucks. Besides, you only want to buy it once right? So get the best.

The GT-40 would be about my last choice if I were going for power on a budget.

The GT-40 does flow more than a Cobra, not much though, and it's too thin to be modified. Plus it costs significantly more.

The Edelbrock, TFS, and Holley all outflow the GT-40 intake. The TFS is about the same price as a Cobra last time I checked, too.

I gave also a thought of buying a gt40 intake for my 95 but I decided to get a cobra because of its cost-effectiveness (built in elbow, no need of egr spacer w larger tb, about equal flow numbers compared to gt40).

About the sn95 gt, I'm not sure how large tb and mass air meter there are on stock? Should they be replaced by larger ones for optimum intake performance with cobra intake? In every case the mass air meter should be larger than the tb to keep flow speeds up, am i right on this?

The GT40 only makes 2-4 more HP then the Cobra, nothing you will notice. It is lighter then the Cobra but it isn't worth the $200 more. I also favor the Holley http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif but it works good for me with all the other parts I have, as stated befor you will give up more low end with the Holley on a near stock motor therefore the Cobra would be a good choice

daz95gt- try a Accufab 65mm TB and a 75mm Pro-M bullet it is a very popular combo. Some people have problems running 24# and a 75mm due toi the fuel curve of the 24# injetcors I myself haven't had any problems.

Cobra for all the reasons stated above, GT40 if your after looks, not worth more money performance wise, as it offers no more performance than the cobra, which has been proven at the track.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. For what most people are saying is that the cobra intake is the best one for my application. They also say that is cheap. Please tell me where have you seen a cobra intake cheap for a 94 model. Because all of the ones i have seen are 500.00+. Thanks again.

Mac has just come out with a new intake... the design is basically a slightly improved Edelbrock Performer. It's supposed to be $299. Heck of a deal.

They also have the elbow to adapt a fox3 intake to the SN95.

boricua_5litro 01-26-2001 04:38 PM

has anyone seen a car with this new mac intake???????????

Shotgun28 01-26-2001 04:38 PM

Regarding the Gt-40 intake to the Cobra for a 94-95 application, is still a big difference in price.

Example:
Cobra intake for your year NEW: $549.00

GT40 Intake New: $649.00 plus
114.95 for the adapter for your year 94-95

Still a $220 difference, not worth the extra couple of ponies in my opinion.

You can use a 87-93 Cobra intake and a elbow adapter.

The MAC intake will not be available to late MAY, check out their site.

Rick 91GT Good point though it only makes a $10-20 save. But the fox-cobra intake is a bit taller as far as i know and won't fit under the tower brace if one would retain it.

I didn't know it sat higher then the 94-95 Cobra model, thanks for the info. I don't want to start a big debatehere but is the 93 intake better flowinging then the 94-95, it just seems atleast in my area I see more of those running around.

Well that fox-intake probably fits under sn95's sleakier hood without that strut brace, but the main reason ford came up with new 94-95 cobra intake was because the older one did not fit under sn95's "hood". I'm just guessing, but i believe fox intake fits also if you remove that strut tower brace from sn95, not the hood. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

What comes to those flow numbers, let me quote Steve Turner in his "How to tune & modify your 5.0 mustang" book. "With the debut of the SN95 Mustangs in 1994, Ford revised the Cobra upper to fit under the Mustang's sleek new hood. The changes included reduced height, a curved throttle body inlet, and, for its use on the 1995 cobra R, a larger plenum area. Despite these changes, the 94-95 Cobra intake flows right with its sibling and the GT-40."

(I hope I didn't break any copyright laws) http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

But thats just Steve, I don't have any subjective experience on that myself.
