BEST LX
Looking for another stang I love the Gt. but I want a different look my 93 cobra has the Gt fog lights which I love. Trying to decide between the LX models any Lx owners here?

No do not buy a vert. By either the notch in prefrence if you want to race or by a hatch like mine. LX's are sleepers man.

Mine came with a traction-lok and 2:73's. It weighs in at 3300lbs. LOL, it definetly is a sleeper and I get alot of compliments.

If you are looking for the LX, you have 3 different body styles.
Coupe - Lightest and most rigid. Hatch - Most common, 50lbs heavier, weight's over the rear. Vert - Heaviest, least ridgid, it has it's up's and down's, hehe, pun intended. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif Now for differences in engines, since you are in California. 1987 Speed Density. Faster stock, less able to handle big cams and forced induction. Rated at 225hp 300tq 1988-1992 Mass Airflow. Slower stock, better when you really begin going crazy with it. Carry over ratings used from 1987, dispite revisions made at 225hp 300tq, although the engine was never technically rated. 1993 Mass Airflow. Hypereutic Pistons, weaker than the 1987-1992 Forged parts. Re-rated at 205hp. Weak computer. Probably the same real hp as 1988-1992. Tranny's. T-5. Much superior stock for stock in performance. Less expensive to make your car run 12's. Below that, you're pushing the stock T-5. 75lbs lighter. 1987-1989. 265lb/ft 1990-1993. 305lb/ft AOD. Significantly slower than T-5, stock. Can be made to run with T-5 car, maybe a little better with a little more gear than the manual and otherwise equal setups. Requires shift kit, and converter, but converter hurts fuel economy a little. Adds 75lbs. Needs to be upgraded before other mods are made, as the car will not respond nearly as favorably to higher powerbands and the tranmission itself will rob 5% more power. Looks. 1987-1990. 10 Hole "phone dial" 15" aluminum wheels. Not exactly the favorite choice. 1989 or 1990. GT Style "Turbine" 15" aluminum wheels. Look quite badass on the LX if I do say so myself. Limited Edition 7up convertables in Deep Emerald Green Metallic with white interior and white top only. Known as the 7up car. Only a few hundred ever made. Most people with these cars are idiots and trick them out for some reason. They will be worth a FORTUNE. 1991-1993. 5 Star "Pony" wheels. 16" aluminum. A huge improvement in style. I always see alot of older 87-93 4 and 6 banger LX for sell at good prices. Will it cost me alot to covert to a 5.0.

I am kind of leaning towards a lx convert hard to find a decent one here in cali at the right price. I see a lot of lx 4 and 6 bangers for sell thinking about going with one of a smaller engine if these gas prices keep going up. I can always implant a 5.0 liter in it later

93cobrah, the 6cyl was done away with after 1986. It didn't come back until 1994. The only two engines offered between 1987-1993 were the base 2.3L SOHC I-4 in the LX only, and the 5.0L OHV V-8 in the LX as an option, and the GT as the standard.
1987-1990 2.3L's were rated at 88hp. 1991-1993 2.3L's were rated at 105hp. The additional power came mostly from improved heads. I'm unaware of when the 2.3L went to MAF, not that it really matters, lol. A couple things to remember about the 4cyl cars. There is more to the 5.0L package than just an engine. [list=a][*]Engine. Over double the power with the 5.0.[*]Transmission. 4 cylinder's got the much weaker A4LD auto, and the weaker version of the T-5 manual. You cannot mate a T-5 from a 4 cylinder to a 5.0L due to different input shaft sizes. Not to mention the 5.0 would blow it to pieces.[*]Differential. The 2.3L got the much weaker 7.5" rear end, without positraction, and the 5.0L got the heavy duty 8.8" version.[*]Suspension. Again, the suspention is stiffer and more cornering friendly in the 5.0 cars, which also feature the rear "quadrashocks" limiting rear end wrap up and wheelhop.[*]Interior Options. The 2.3L LX's were not optionable with the upgraded GT sport bucket seats or fabric. The dash is also different with the gauge cluster featuring a different tachometer (6,000rpm), and less of the little warning lights and all that.[*]Apperance Packages. On the outside, the 4 banger cars came from the factory with 14" cheapy looking wheels. Quite frankly, they look terrible.[*]Brakes. A different master cylinder, larger calipers and front rotors help stop the V-8 cars better. The Fox body cars already have lousy brakes. Putting the V-8 into a stock braking 4 cylinder is nuts in my opinion.[*]Other changes under the hood take place as well. The early 2.3L's at least until 1988 had no smog pump, an inadaquate for a V-8 electric fan, smaller radiator, and a different fan shroud, obviously, for a few more changes. Oh, and just so you know, I've gotten significantly better fuel economy with my 5.0L's than I did with my 2.3L's. Both the 5.0's have been manuals and the 2.3's were auto's, but still. I'm talking 2-3mpg.

I will be better off going with the 5.0 LX I can see the conversion will be expensive.

cobrah. i have an LX. its a hatch and black. i like the lx, cause there isnt any ground effects and the "kick a s s" stainless steel tailpipes! convertible is definetely kewl. i wish i had a convertible.
