Are my transmission mounts bad?

I'm suspecting my transmission mounts may be bad. I've been experenceing what I thought was gear noise, but my rear end shop who installed my gears swapped out another set of 4.10's and all new bearings into my rear and found it did the same thing! (set me back only $200 hewww...) The sound sounded like it was from the rear, but they suspected the transmission (and the noises from the trans could be moved around via the driveshaft) they said. Well.. I was at the exahust shop getting some pipes welded, and I walked under the car and puhed up on the tail shaft of the transmission and I could move it about 1-2 inches up from the cross-member. Tomorrow I'm going to pull the crossmember and check the tranny mounts to see if they are bad... What should I look for, or should I just go to the part store before I get started to get new mounts because they are surly going to need replacing??

Sounds like a lot of freeplay, 1-2". Pull the old mount and see if it's in one piece, if not, you'll have to replace it.

If it's the original mount, at 130K, it's more than likely shot.

Ok, I replaced my transmission mount today and it fixed the play, but did not solve the noise that I'm hearing... I think I might need a new tranny soon... This one is showing signs that the end is soon.
