B&M Hammer shifter.....

I know that Mach 1 has one, so I am sure he can answer my questions http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

First, I found one, new, a very good price. I want to mount it so that it looks like the mustang console shifter. Can I do that?

The B&M website says I need an install kit? How much is that?

How is the install, fairly easy?

A few years ago I installed a B&M Megashifter (essentially the same item, I believe) on my dearly-departed S-10. It was previously a column-shifted truck, so I had to drill a few holes to mount the bracket on the floor. No biggie there. Then I had to loosen a few of the tranny pan bolts and mount the cable bracket, then re-install the pan bolts. Again nothing major. I spent a few hours looking over the materials and rounded up 2 friends, was driving the truck an hour and a half later.

I believe the B&M shifters are available fitted to both the Camaro and the Mustang. If you buy one of these dedicated units you probably won't need the install kit. Check and see if the one you are buying is specifically made for the Mustang. If it is a universal unit it will require more $, effort, and parts to fit where your stock shifter is now. That and it will wipe out any money you are saving on the shifter.

As stated above, the install is fairly easy. If you purchase a dedicated Mustang unit it should bolt up to the existing bracketry, or use the same holes, with no additional drilling. You will still need to mount the cable as described. Be careful so as not to route the cable where it will chafe against sharp metal or melt/burn!

Hope this helps and Mach 1 can probably fill in the holes or let me know if I'm off base. I'm sure there are some subtle differences in procedure between the S-10 and Mustang.

The shifter is not made just for the mustang, it is a universal shifter.

Thanks for your reply!

I just went to www.bmracing.com and looked at their shifters. B&M does not offer a dedicated Mustang Megashifter, so I was wrong. But they do offer a "Mustang console Hammer". This utilizes the factory cable, mounts in the factory console, but uses a B&M faceplate. Probably will run you a little more, but probably you won't have to buy an install kit. Check it out. Sounds like it may be the ticket for you.

Depending on wether the car is a original automatic, the shifter bolts in perfect. Even the center consule fits without altercations. If the car was a stick, you will need to cut the trans hump out of a automatic car and weld it in yours.Eather way the shifter looks and works great in the car.

I may be confused but were you asking about the hammer shifter or something else. If your asking about the hammer shifter I have it. It comes with a metal plate that replaces the plastic one where the shifter goes. It was really easy to install though I still can't get the letters to line up w/the light. Let me know if this is what your talking about and I try to help you.

LOCASH Which one do you have? Did you need a kit to install in the AOD?

I have the console shifter. Everything came in the box except the bolts to hold it to the sheetmetal. They recommend using the old clips but mine where rusted out. I really like the reverse lockout and ratchet action. It makes dragging the AOD idiot proof.

I have the mustang specific hammer. It fits just like the picture. I would recommend it, as to not butcher your console, and make installation easy. If you get anything other than the mustang specific hammer, your going to have to modify for fit and finish.
