New O2 Sensors: Which to buy?
Hi,
Ok, my car pretty much has all the symptoms related to bad O2 sensor: surging idle (has died a few times when started up, but idles fine once started again), frequent "Check Engine" light, and it's hard to notice now but I think I'm getting bad mileage. I've tried adjusting TPS and put in a K&N cone setup w/ RAM-AIR (not that I was expecting K&N to solve things). Anywho, I'm looking forward to buying new O2 sensors this spring/summer, and I want to know what brand/model I should buy, and how much it will cost me per sensor. Also, I'm planning to install the sensors my self, and I want to know what I should consider before changing them myself. My car: 1989 5.0L LX, cat-back exhaust (Prolly Flowmaster or Mac), 3.55 gears, and modified cam (not sure on cam details). It also has about 96,500KM (60,300 miles). Thanks! Bye! ------------------ Gautam N. Lad http://www.cubicdesign.com http://www.cubicdesign.com/mustang/ |
When I've changed mine (yes more than once for various reasons) I've used Ford's O2 sensors. They are about $40 USD each.
Install is very easy. Just get yourself a 22mm open-ended wrench (I think it's 22mm) and take off the old ones. Then put a little bit of anti-seize compound on the threads of the new O2 sensors before screwing in the new ones. Make sure not to get any anti-seize compound on the sensor tip. Install should take about 15 mins. Good luck. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif E ------------------ 1991 5.0 LX Coupe -37,800 miles 13.17 @ 106.14 mph w/ 2.138 60' Pro-Charger D-1SC on the way!!! |
Bosch makes Fords O2 sensors.

Yeah, Ford's are Bosch. I think those are pretty much standard in the industry. Most are pretty pricey since they use platinum for some reason. *Shrugs*

It is a 22mm, but I read that you can also use a 7/8. Easy as pie, but don't forget the anti-seize. Oh yeah, Mustangs Unlimited carries them for your car for $54.95 each.
